Yeah I doubt they'll use this footage for the movie. You can't film below sea with a high-tech camera and have a lot of room/space (reshoots) to make it even work.

I'm assuming he's going to use this footage to spawn an idea for Avatar 2 and just duplicate it / replicate it with computers/technology.

It is. The footage will be used in an upcoming 3D film and a documentary for the Discovery Channel.
