Pink has been enjoying some unexpected airplay in Boston and across the country this week. Lately, the formerly ***hsia haird songstress has been hurting for a hit on the radio, and it looks like she may just get one. However, it's not that she's getting airplay thats surprising. Whats so unexpected about her recent exposure, is that stations are beginning to play "Dear Mr. President" more and more, despite Pink and her handlers denying that the song will ever be released as an official single.
The song, a controversial song, which questions a President, has also been getting some press comparable to that of a single.
Boston's Mix 98.5's Blake Hayes played the song this evening during his spot during radio's "prime time" 7pm-10pm, while he filled in for Lady D. "The song, kinda controversial... The lyrics are kinda controversial, but its a really great song, and its #4 [at our station]...we're getting alot of requests for it." said Hayes.
The song has been gaining airplay across the country thanks, in part, to some dedicated Pink fans on her forums at
www.pinkspage.com who have been requesting the song on their local stations.
Pink returned to the charts after a relative disappearance with Stupid Girls, her first single from her new album, I'm Not Dead, climbing to #16 on the US airplay charts. Her limelight has faded quickly though when the second single from the album, Who Knew, only reached 84.
The fact that Dear Mr. President is gaining airplay during the notoriously impossible prime time slot in a market as large as Boston, makes us wonder if Pink will be changing her mind about her next single soon.
