Hero was Mariah's 6th #1 single, so I wouldn't say it put her on the map.
Hands was Jewel's first single off of her second album. Her first album has sold around 13 million whereas her second has sold maybe 4 million. She was already on the map.

TRUE.. but Hero was the one that I personally think made her a house hold name... song was successful everywhere...
and Jewel had great success with 1st album but.... Hands was the one that made her popular internationally... oh well..its just my opinion..hehe
