As for Orlando, no one actually visits Orlando - they visit the giant theme parks in the area of Orlando. Moving those parks to some hick town in Texas would change nothing of the tourist experience. People who visit NYC go to visit the actual city.

Unfortunately, tourists see only a small portion of NYC, generally Manhattan under 59th Street. They miss all the other little wonders.

An earthquake is an earthquake, HOWEVER, the city was built to somehow fight back these with advance architecture among other things.
Now i'm not saying an earthquake won't cause havoc, but thanks to all the advantages the city has, the damage is significantly reduced.
