i definatly don't think that this should be the case, but you're 100% correct. a lot of people don't care if someone can sing anymore as long as they have good beats or can dance or crap like that.
admitably, me & u is a bit of a guilty pleasure, but if that's any indication, she's a ways away from music of true substance.
