I took a listen.
I don't hate it.
It's undoubtedly their weakest album to date, in my opinion. But that doesn't make it "bad." The last few songs, though, were weird. It felt like I was listening to Daughtry. :P
Fortunately, I like Daughtry, so I enjoyed them...but still. You know what I mean, right?
My favorite songs are:
1. Adrenaline
2. Unity
3. Bully
4. Enemies
The rest kind of just glob together.
It's no Sound of Madness by any means. I still like the album and think it's good. But it's my least favorite of theirs. For a lot of it, it felt like I was listening to a different band.
It kind of hurts to say this because of how much I love this band (hence, my username
). I want to like this album so much more than I do.
I know it's going to grow on me. I can tell they worked very hard on it. The songs are all beautiful, despite everything. Worded wonderfully and the musical arrangements were lovely. It just didn't feel like Shinedown. It felt like a great album from a random band. The only thing reminding me that it was Shinedown was Brent's voice. He can sing the phone book and make it sound intense and bone-chilling.
Don't get me wrong, some of the songs sounded Shinedown-y. Adrenaline, for example. But I'm referring more towards 'Miracle' and 'I'll Follow You' (the latter sounded almost like Lady Gaga
)
