Beyonce/Christina...Making their own rules on their own terms
This was fan made but it was a nice read so I thot I post it here. Since its bout Xtina and Bee..I thot 2 make another thread instead of puttin it in their official ones.
-----------------------------
Isn't it just so refreshing that the (arguably) two biggest female stars of our generation, Beyonce and Christina, have gotten to a point where they are making their own rules and working to the beat of their own drum?
Take Bee for instance. 5 years ago, at the young age of 20, she was working to every order of the record label and her manager/father, doing certain things she didn't necassarily want to do or feel the need to complete. Whatever the label told her, and Kelly and Michelle, to do, they did it. They couldn't, and didn't, ever really say "no" to anything they were told to do.
Fast forward now to this year, 5 years later, and Beyonce has evolved from the teen star we all fell in love with into a strong, independent artist and woman. She did her album without even telling the label or her father, paid for it all herself, organised the producers and writers, and banged out 22 songs in 2 weeks. Only then did she tell the label that she was ready to release a new album, which was already complete.
This is almost unheard of for popular artists these days, when the labels usually have so much control. Beyonce has proven once again that she is constantly evolving and growing, and working to the beat of her own drum, her own creativity and drive, and that she stands apart from the rest as a true innovator of music, entertainment, and popular culture in the new millenium.
Almost ironically, the other biggest female singer these days has done a very similar thing at the same time. Christina's last album was hugely successful, a mainstream success story. Her label would have no doubt been putting the pressure on her to get into the studio with all the typical commercial producers and record a new album full of new hits made for radio and MTV.
But despite this, Christina took her time with her new album, and is releasing it 4 years after her last one. The theme is not common, not commercial in many ways, and unconventional. But she's doing what she wants to do, in her own time, on her own terms. Once another product of the pop machine that was the late 90's, and (self admittedly) at times immature with her actions and attitude, Christina has matured. She took her time, recorded an album of timeless songs influenced to the icons of the past century, and the result is an album worthy of her talents.
I just find it such a breath of fresh air to see two phenomenally successful, high selling and popular "pop stars" turn into independent, true artists that are doing what they really want to do on their own terms, and making their own rules. They are re-writing the conventions of the music industry these days, or rather, breaking the the existing ones. Kudos, Beyonce and Christina, keep doing what you're doing.
