Consistent in terms of success? Yes.
Consistent on any other level? No.
That's what makes a large part of Rihanna's success is that she IS inconsistent. Her brand fits into no mold because she is constantly reinventing her image, her music, and her overall sound to showcase her variety.
Who else has dabbled in almost all genres so effortlessly the way she has, finding success in each and every genre she attempts?
Songs that went top 10 for more than a week, were picked up by radio and sold well over a million are not flops.
You'd think that years of watching charts would teach people that peaks mean absolutely nothing. The song reaching the top 10 doesn't matter cause it still a flop.
This thread only proves how pathetically out of touch ATRL is when defining a "flop"
Songs that went top 10 for more than a week, were picked up by radio and sold well over a million are not flops.
And a song that was merely sent to urban radio and performed well there isn't either.
!!!
Her only true flops are We Ride and Rockstar 101. Yes, there have been some under-performers, but when you average out at about 6 singles per year, that's bound to happen.
I wouldn't say she is consistent but she has never flopped terribly other than MOTS, Her success for her eras usually depend on the material. But shes definitely been one of the most commercially consistent artist since her debut and hasn't shown any signs of slowing down, this era is just a mess promotion and singles wise.
She's the most consistent artist with any amount of longevity out right now. Every album has sold well and she has smash singles every year. People are saying her last single is "flopping", yet she's sitting with over 300 AI at the moment. Get a reality check, she's still huge on the charts even in this moment.
In comparison to her peers, you can't say Beyonce is consistent at all when compared to RIhanna. She doesn't get nowhere near the amount of hits every year, and her album success today is less than flattering when compared to Rihanna's, and that's not even considering that Rihanna is releasing an album every year. Loud sold what B'day did in a year what it took her to do with 2 and a re-release, and that was in 2006 when sales were significantly higher still. Talk That Talk outsold 4 in about 3 months with a fraction of the lead-in promotion or comeback hype leading.
Lady Gaga and Katy Perry haven't been around long enough and don't have a big enough catalog to really compare. Katy Perry's success is on a lower level anyway particularly worldwide.
