I question LA Reid's judgments. He's the one who tacked on 16 year old Astro onto Cher Lloyd's song "Want U Back". What a bizarre decision. Epic Records is going through a transformation right now, which is why they're signing on a lot of artists. They were previously plagued with poor decision making. Their last big artist was probably Shakira, who has now jumped ship and left them after their poor treatment of the "She Wolf" album (ex: releasing that single featuring Lil Wayne).

Best of luck to Avril, though. Hopefully she finds great success. I'm just a bit iffy about Epic Records and LA Reid. It sounds good on the surface, but it might not actually be.

I think the main issue for her is the maturity aspect. I know a lot of people (in ATRL, other music forums, etc) that dislike the "immature, bratty" Avril we saw during TBDT and partly during GL (WTH, Smile). If she's able to deliver a grown-up album and ESPECIALLY a grown-up first single, her chances wil be higher. She shouldn't go "all pop" because there's a fierce competition out there (Katy, Rihanna, Kesha, etc), she should differentiate herself a bit from the rest, like she did for LG.

As for the sound or genre, I think she should stick to pop-rock, mainly. She will possibly have some urban influence since she's worked with the Runners, and perhaps a more "alternative" touch since she's worked with Chad Kroeger and David Hodges. She doesn't need to use a completely new genre or sound to "come back hard". She just needs to explore pop-rock genre more, because she's been stuck in the same sounds or chords for so long.

And I don't know where this "she needs be more mature" thing is coming from. Goodbye Lullaby sounds nothing like she would do 10 or 5 years ago. Maybe "What The Hell", but that's about it. I say she's grown up a lot. And I can't at the different color streaks in hair = immaturity argument. Seriously?

Isn't it sorta funny that when something underperforms the artist is straight back into the studio and planning to release another album as fast as they can. Beyonce And Christina and Rihanna and Now Avril are doing it. When Avril was a good seller she waited a while between releases..But yes i hope she slays. Love her

People forget that WTH was #11 on the BB charts. If she could have a decent hit on a "flop" album, I'm sure she can make a comeback on a fun record.
The electronic sound is at a plateau at the moment, so this is the year to get a hit without EDM.
