Back when I joined ATRL in 2010 people were saying Britney's 2007 performance was memorable and that was JUST ABOUT 3 years old, if not under

I'm sure "this generation" would recognize the guys from LMFAO and their zebra pants moreso than David Bowie's Ziggy Stardust character, but who will be more remembered in 20 years?

The picture w/ Britney isn't instantly recognizable in the general public. And the Madonna picture would only be recognizable for older people.
You guys are giving too much credit for what the general public knows and doesn't know. Get real. They don't know about Britney dancing with a snake, nor do they care.

Honestly, you can't contribute that to the ratings since no one knew it was going to happen. People did, however, know Gaga was performing.
|
They also knew Beyonce was performing GENIUS, and she broke a Twitter record when she stepped on the red carpet an hour before her performance, people watched FOR HER.
Gaga was there in 2010 as well as 2009, no one was tuning in to see her again with those ratings.

Debatable.
I think both of those performances would be more recognizable than Gaga's VMA performance though.

Gaga definitely contributed to the ratings... there was massive hype around that performance. Bey and Gaga were basically the sole reasons the VMA got such high numbers.
Don't be delusional and think Gaga had nothing to do with so many people tuning in that night.

The truth is Britney & Madonna have several recognizable performances, while others don't. Or they only have one or two you can recognize instantly.

And no one remembers anything from the op either.
The floor rolling and the snake, you lose your point dear.

I guess u would have to have LIVED IN THAT TIME to experience the impact of the moment, and I sure am not 30 years old to have witnessed Madonna in 198_ so it doesn't phase me lol.

Debatable. Depends on who you ask. Younger audiences will recognize Gaga's more likely, then Britney's since they are the most recent. Longtime viewers would most likely recognize all 3 but say that Madonna's is more recognizable for it's impact

And I think the exact opposite.
If only there was some way of polling the general population. Then we'd see whether Gaga bleeding on stage or Britney's *gasp* controversial snake is more remembered.
