Yes, that's true. I remember the big question for the first half of 2011 for those of us living in the UK was "Is Make You Feel My Love a reason for Adele's success?"
I think it certainly contributed. That song was massive (in 2010), and definitely increase the hype for her comeback (although I think she'd've still been pretty successful without the Make You Feel My Love promo).
But at the same time, Empire State of Mind, a ballad stripped down to almost just a piano was all over UK radio from early 2010 (and ended the year as the 2nd most played song behind California Gurls I think). So I believe it was in the process of happening anyway. I think Adele might've helped push it along though.
As other people said, Adele's music is good, and people are just getting bored of hearing the same thing over and over again.
