August 1, 2006 marks the 25th anniversary of MTV. Just because MTV is in denial about turning 25, it doesn't mean its sister channel can't celebrate. The party will be on VH1 Classic, which will air the entire first day of MTV from August 1, 1981.
MTV: Music Television was launched with the words, "Ladies and gentlemen, rock and roll." John Lack's intro was followed by the Buggles' "Video Killed the Radio Star," and music videos were launched on the small screen, along with VJs, who served as hosts.
VH1 Classic's all-day celebration will have archival footage that includes the ad campaign, "I want my MTV" and the network's original VJs: Alan Hunter, Martha Quinn, JJ Jackson, Nina Blackwood and Mark Goodman.
