I can't even agree it sounded like nothing at the time. It was different. I think it was fresh at the time not so much now.

Umbrella was one of the most non generic pop songs in 2007

It deserved those weeks at number 1 more than anything in 2007. The song is amazing plus it didn't sound like anything on the radio. Turn off troll mode now cause your embarassing yourself.

Umbrella is very melodic. Sure it wasn't amazing in the first listen but it grew on me so bad that I'm still craving for that song. I'm not even that big of a Rihanna fan but Umbrella is truly one of the best pop songs of the last decade. Based on other people's opinions, the sentence before this one is indeed a FACT.

It was great when it came out, I couldn't stop playing it. It hasn't aged well with me though ....

I haven't heard it in so long.

It's not bad but basic. I agree. It's dated awfully. As has most of her material. Popping out hits all the time makes her stuff very generic. But I could say the same for Just Dance. Even Poker face doesn't have the same magic it used to.

I honestly haven't listened to the song in like a year, but i wouldn't say it's 'basic'.

It was pretty different when it came out and i still love it. I don't consider it her best song either though, she's had far better songs.
