Yeah, the Mayan calender didn't account for leap years, today's date would actually be sometime in August of 2013 if you remove those extra days every four years. Therefore, all this would have happened 8 months ago

Our current calendar is flawed, that's why.
Mayans had a perfect system because they where one of the few high-skilled mathematicians cultures of the world and were amazingly accurate astronomers.
And I do hope the world ends (even though the actual mayan prophecy never mentions such a thing) just to unplease you.

You realize days are days, regardless of our calender, right? We just named them, for obvious reasons, but used a flawed system.
No one came into the world with knowledge such as, "You know what? I like the name February. I'ma just name this time February, and say it lasts 28 days... Except for every 4 years".
