Skin Tone
When I say I can't stand it when people say **** like "Oh, he's/she's cuter because he's/she's light skinned.", I mean I can't stand it. This has become a huge problem among Black people worldwide. People
still think that any Black person of a lighter/caramel complexion is more beautiful than one of a darker/chocolate complexion. That is obviously a silly way of thinking.
When you say things like that, it shows that you are not particularly proud of your heritage.
I was visiting a different high school with my friends because we were going to perform there. (We're dancers.) There were plenty of handsome guys there. If half of the girls I was with didn't automatically start drooling over the high-yellow boy and pay the darker guys dust....

I got upset. The light-skinned dude they were staring down kind of looked like Dobby from Harry Potter. They thought he was better-looking than the others just because he was lighter. They didn't say a thing about the darker guys and they almost never compliment me or any of the guys in our dance group (All of us males are dark-skinned). I know for a FACT that I am handsome.
I watched a documentary on PBS called "Black In Latin America" starring Henry Louis Gates, Jr., once. In the very first episode, he visited the Dominican Republic. The Dom. Rep.'s population is 90% Black or African. But in that country, they still consider light-skinned girls with straight hair to be prettier than dark-skinned girls with natural, curly hair. I've read TONS of blogs by African-Americans who visited this country and were often mistreated because of their complexion. One woman whose blog I read said she couldn't get a dance at a club in Santo Domingo, but all of her light-skinned and White friends could.
This is a problem in America. This is a problem in the Dominican Republic. This is a problem in almost every country around the world with significant Black populations. I think it's time we stop putting emphasis on fair-skinned people and look past skin color when considering beauty. There should be NOTHING wrong with being Black AND looking like it, too.
These two women are equally beautiful. Where's the lie?
