Branding Britney Spears and Christina Aguilera as copycats, Janet Jackson’s rap mogul beau Jermaine Dupri has praised his sweetheart’s originality in her work.

Dupri, who according to speculation is planning to tie the knot with Jackson on September 26th this year, said that the forthcoming album will set the standard for her rivals in the business, and be a trendsetter.

"Only Janet records sound like her. I always look and think, where's Beyonce going to be in 20 years?' It's hard for me to visualise. I don't put them on the same plane".

"Artists just need to make good music. I said to Janet, 'All you got to do is sing.' Britney and Christina Aguilera are all copycats of one person”.

"Janet doesn't go for the same typical cars and street videos. She was the reason we started to watch TV. She's back to her full capacity and blowing it out to the level”, he added.


Janet is an icon. These are the icons of the future. How low can you get!

I think, if Jermaine even said this that is, he simply meant Janet has proven she can stick around for this long. Beyonce, X-tina, and Britney while they've been in the game for a while have not came anywhere near what Janet has done in her career. I mean, I sort of put artist like Janet, Madonna, etc. in their own group. These bitches were out in the 80s! And for Janet it has been sort of even longer cause she was on sitcoms and things of that nature before she even had a singing career.

The "new girls" haven't been given the chance yet to determine whether they'll be around as long. They've got years, so it is a bit unfair for him to compare them to Janet. I'm sure the three he mentioned will actually be around for a long time. If he had said someone like Ciara or Rihanna . . .then no not so much. heh

Janet is droppin of the radar because she hasn't evolved compared to Mariah and Madonna, who have gone down a more respectable and credible route. It wasn't even that the superbowl affected Janet's credibility - the fact that Damito Jo was crap, pointless and overtly sexualised did not help.

So many holes in that argument. Mariah and Madonna took a more respectable route? Everyone knows Mariah became overtly sexual ever since she got divorced and has done her own style of music (which is much more rap/hip hop inluenced) Janet didn't do that with Damita Jo, she was still going for the middle ground, the sound that wasn't exactly the most popular, but still had yet to go out of style. The album lacked any hard dance tracks, and that is what most people expected from her. Same with the sort of backlash with Call On Me, once again Janet doesn't give us a dance track.

The Superbowl incident is probably the primary reason Damita Jo didn't sell like her previous efforts. Without MTV's support and no airplay of her videos she lost a major part of her audience. Not that it mattered because the video that had the dancing came out too late and still got no airplay as well.

If anything she is taking the more "predictable" route this time as Mariah as done. As for Madonna, she basically went techno and we've all seen how much good that has done her career. She still has hits, but nothing even remotely close to her past (At least in the U.S. market)

I think what goldmember means is that Janet's last couple of albums aren't a change. Madonna is always changing and Mariah made her style more R&B/pop. I don't think that the Superbowl incident was why Damita Jo didn't do well. The album just wasn't good. Mariah had her period of "incidents" then finally after a like 5 yrs. she produced a good album that people bought. Janet is kind of like Prince, she still has hits but they aren't consistent. & since she's still doing pop music she has to step her game up if she expects to do well. Now regarding Jermaine's comments, I'm surprised he didn't mention CIARA. She's the one who I see copying Janet.

Cuz shes no big competition. U can tell hes insecure and is tryna use Janets "icon" status to his advantage. Not gonna work buddy.

Ciara's career is over in about a year anyways. But jD is truly dumb ass hell. Sure, we may hopefully forget Britney in a year (or two or three; however long it takes people to get over her ignorance and lack of singing) But Bee 7 Christina are gonna be around forever, so JD (as usual) just m,ade himself look like a damn fool.

Which explains why all the checks he sent to get 3LW some radio play bounced (Cause he needs to make some money off Janet lol)
