Our friend Matthew at BoyCulture has been invited to a Madonna's MDNA listening party at Liz Rosenberg's office. His favourite track so far from the first listening is Falling Free, an amazing and intimate ballad - written with Joe Henry and produced with William Orbit - which close the standard edition.
"I genuinely loved most of what I heard," Matt writes. "There are definitely songs on here that are personal, uplifting and inspiring mixed among the far louder "I'm still hot and young, **** me in any hole you can!" club crushers."
Matt revealed that Lourdes is singing back vocals in Superstar, described as "A charming and fluffy song ("ooooh, la la!") that felt for me like Little Star had grown up and was having fun."
Turn Up the Radio is one of Matthew's favourite post-Ray of Light songs, described as "a sweeping, joyous pop-dance song as anthemic as Get Together."
"The suite of songs Love Spent, Masterpiece and Falling Free is probably going to please any Madonna fan I've ever met," writes Matt. "They're beautifully sung and are not cursed with oversimplified lyrics, nor do they sound like they care much if asinine radio programmers will like them."
Matthew can not understand why Beautiful Killer is not included in the standard edition of MDNA. "It is a f*cking great Orbit-sounding Solveig song," he says.Talking about the other bonus tracks, Matt adds: "Even the cringe-inducing title I ****ed Up turns out to be a really pretty, plaintive pop song. B-day Song didn't seem to have its guest star—M.I.A. was M.I.A."
There are 5 MDNA configurations: STANDARD EXPLICIT ALBUM/ALL ACCOUNTS/PHYSICAL & DIGITAL (with Gang Bang), STANDARD EDITED ALBUM/ALL ACCOUNTS/PHYSICAL & DIGITAL (without Gang Bang), DELUXE EXPLICIT ALBUM/ALL ACCOUNTS/PHYSICAL & DIGITAL (with Bang Bang), DELUXE EDITED ALBUM/WALMART EXCLUSIVE/PHYSICAL EDITION (without Bang Bang) and SUPER BOWL DELUXE EXPLICIT/ITUNES EXCLUSIVE/DIGITAL VERSION (including an ACOUSTIC version of Love Spent).
