-Wouldn't it just be better to say "the people I know," or "Most of the people I've come across" or "people in my neighborhood/hood/corner/block" don't like something.

Crazy delusional stans on ATRL that have incredible high expectations for everything, especially technical errors and chart success, are WAY different from people who are playing songs on the radio. The term "the general public" pretty much puts what America (and the world) actually gives a **** about, not ATRL's biased members.

How are we NOT different? A ton of members on ATRL can't stand SAIKI, but the general public allowed it to hit #1. ATRLers are more focused on the performance and quality of the song, while the general public only cares if it sounds good and/or if it's catchy.
And clearly, you don't see regular people getting in vulgar and ridiculous fights between two popular artists. They'd just look like freaks having that fight in public. It's cause most people don't care about that stuff. They don't consider the music industry as "serious" as we do.
The General Public are the 95% of music consumers who listen to the radio and download whatever songs they like. They usually have no idea when new albums are dropping and sometimes don't even know who sings the songs they like.
The General Public have no idea who people like Rita Ora, Sabi, Porcelain Black etc are and still think You Da One, Set Fire To The Rain, and Stronger are "brand new."
They have no particular loyalty to "a favorite artist," and they don't keep up with the music world in general.
