RoL is candid, thought-provoking, and superior to Blackout both in lyrical content and production value.

That's a damn lie, in terms of production that's the one that that Blackout has Ray Of Light beat in. The songs on Blackout sound like three different songs meshed into one and the sonic experience is otherworldly there are at least twelve or so different sounds coming at you at once when you listen to one of those songs. It's an out and out explosion of sounds that progress continuously through out the song. Ray Of Light has a lot in its corner but the technological advancements in production leave it in the wake of Blackout fairly easily. No album produced in the 90's could compare to the production of the late 00's and early 10's.

I don't believe Blackout influenced anything. You can't be an influence in mainstream pop music unless you smash the charts. Or at least get amazing reviews that make everyone sit up and take notice. Blackout did neither.

That's just not true. All it takes is one producer or one artist to sit up and take notice of a particular sound and then you can easily change the landscape of Pop music. Blackout was definitely influential, it's not as if it was a completely under the radar album. Gimme More and Piece Of Me were both worldwide hits, and Blackout sold enough to get out there in the mainstream. The fact that numerous publications have stated it's one of the most meaningful pop albums of the past 5 years says volumes. Rolling Stone, The Times, Guardian, All Music Guide, Billboard, NRJ, MTV, The New York Times, Pitchfork, etc. were all publications that took notice of Blackout again years after the fact. You don't have to smash the charts to influence mainstream pop music and you don't need the critics to take notice either. You just need a select group of people to have interest in your product and considering the later releases from pop stars its obvious that Blackouts electro-synth powered sound resonated with future successful acts like Lady Gaga, The Black Eyed Peas and other artists.

I think Blackout vs Like a Prayer would have been more fitting since Madonna was 30 when she put that out, but I'll stick with what members were already discussing

It would have been more appropriate to compare Erotica to Blackout. Britney to True Blue. In The Zone to Like A Prayer. Femme Fatale to Bedtime Stories.
