It's brilliant and much needed. I swear it's as if the people bitching(not specifically here, but all over the internet) have not even used it, or don't even understand the concept and reasoning.
Desktop UI's have been more or less the same for wayyy too long now. Metro isn't simply something pretty to touch, in the end it makes Windows much more friendly, and 90% of people will never have to leave the metro start interface. I can't believe how much people are willing to bitch about the start menu being taken away, when the start menu is ugly and slow. No one wants to click through a million and 2 directories to open a program. Most users never even use the start menu. That's why you see so many people with ugly desktops filled with shortcuts, and it's why applications automatically put one there when they are installed.
Most people get onto their computer to check Facebook and do light browsing etc, and Metro is by far more intuitive than previous versions of windows(and prettier). Not only are your settings now synced to the cloud, but the HTML 5 Windows apps are beautiful and feel far more integrated than any other desktop operating system apps have.
The only learning curve is like 4 easy to use gestures. People are just bitching because they hate change but Windows 8 metro is by far a better interface for most users.
And for the power users like me and other people that game, and do intensive work on their computers the plain old desktop environment is completely intact. Windows 8 has a very tiny learning curve and after that is a much much better operating system than Windows 7(which is fantastic)
Windows 8 is fantastic for all users, and you people stuck in the past will have to deal and let Microsoft take you on the beutiful ride into the future

. I love hating on Microsoft but what they are doing with WP7, and Windows 8 is fantastic. The only real issue metro has is that for people that do use both Metro and the normal desktop, the switch back and forth feels somewhat sloppy. The desktop interface needs to lose the aero theme and at the very least be made a little more metro stylized.
