Roman Reloaded never even came close to overtaking Starships on iTunes. Starships is currently Top 5, is RR even Top 30? RR is the epitome of a quality Nicki track.
I just think she is putting a lot more emphasis on her pop side lately than her hip-hop side. I hope PF : RR includes more singing tracks in the vein of SM.

Its called being successful, she isnt stupid. Its interesting yall use this logic with Nicki, but if asked you would want your fave to release their most radio friendly songs in hopes of them being hits, not the songs that you feel are the best in quality.
Starships is made to be a hit.
Roman Reloaded is meant for the fans.
Starships will sell albums.
Roman Reloaded will not.
This is a business, not a ****ing critics list.

I completely disagree with this. Starships will get her a top 10 hit that may or may not sell the album. However, Roman Reloaded, which actually showcases what her main fanbase is actually here for, will make them want to buy it.
Starships is a song that almost any pop artist today could record (and that's no shade). In fact, there have been many hits similar to it today and it's arguable as to whether the artists responsible have album sales that match up.

OK doesn't opening doors mean female rappers should be on top atm and relevant? I don't see that but I like Nicki and I can't WAIT for Roman Holiday to be released in HQ, I feel like it will be one of my favorite 2012 songs as for Starships and the other trash, just no

Starships won't sell albums.
If you look at her last album campaign, it was Moment 4 Life that got her album to #1. Super Bass was the biggest hit, but it didn't sell the album that much, compared to the smaller hit Moment 4 Life.
It's the urban songs that will sell albums for Nicki.
The reason she's even releasing pop songs like Starships is because it's 2011/2012 and hip hop music doesn't do well in the Hot 100. It's a shame she wasn't around during the 2002-2008 period, she'd have slayed the Hot 100 then with her hip hop songs.

As long as Nicki keeps dropping rap tracks for her strictly urban fanbase (which she has), then nobody has the right to say she isn't contributing to the genre.
I don't remember Chris getting scorned for releasing that bootleg
Calvin Haris song yet simultaneously smashing with Look At Me Now, and Kanye was praised went he went pop with 808s. Nicki herself said from day one she was an entertainer, and a mainstream act. Mainstream acts do what they can to get mainstream success.
The only real criticism I can see with Nicki is that she has sacrificed some elements that made her innovative. She needs to work on that.

That doesn't mean she's embracing her Pop side more. It's the radio's decision of what they want and don't want to play from Nicki. Maybe if they played RR or RH, you would have said otherwise.

I agree with most of this statement. However, I believe RR has the ability to sell the album more than Starships (both will sell though).
Big Hip-Hop stars like Drake and Wayne always sell wonderful numbers on the first week sales. Nicki is as big as Drizzy, and she has the WW + Pop appeal with Starships/SB being hits. I say that'll she'll be very consistent with her album on both sides (Hip-Hop & U.S./ Pop & WW).

She raps and is successful, she sold albums, almost 2 million in the US alone. That means the lane is open for female rappers to still sell music
|
I can agree with that, I guess she proved that female rappers can still sell (with the right formula), but to believe that she opened the door for them is WAY off IMO, because her success isn't groundbreaking in this day and age, she's really just following the standard: light pop beats, colorful wigs, costumes, videos, performances, etc and yes, with rap rhymes covering all of it.

Her success isn't groundbreaking? In just a matter of years Nicki went from underground to performing with Madonna, being the first female rapper to perform solo at the Grammys, and breaking countless records.
Nicki is so much more than light pop beats and wigs, but some people are too ignorant to realize that.
