Did You Assume The Chardon High Shooter Was White?
Today in my journalism class my teacher brought up the topic of racial diversity in our school, somehow everyone got off topic and started ranting on and on about the Chardon High Shooting that so far has killed 3 teens. About 90% of the class said they knew the gunman would be white (which is what he turned out to be). I wanted to know, did you ladies assume this as well or not?

Yes, I did. For no particular reason, though. I don't think all school-shooters are White. That's silly. But, I'll admit that I did think he was white before I saw his picture.

We were also talking about this in journalism. 
Personally, I never thought of his skin color. I honestly imagined him as some overweight goth teen that was bullied a lot...

This is 20 minutes away from where I live. I was in that cafeteria once even though I didn't go to the HS for classes.
And yes I assumed he was white, Chardon is like 90% white.

Yes, because I live 35-40 minutes away from Chardon and I know that mostly white people live there.

Well I used to live in Newbury which was like 10 minutes away, its a nearby township. But now I live in Cleveland Heights, which still isn't that far.
My friend from work said her cousin is a junior there, he was supposed to be at that table where the kids got shot, but he had a dentists appointment. Turns out the appt was a month later, and his mom had read the date wrong. If she hadn't had brought him, he may have been a target

Why would people assume he's white? It's not like every single school shooter in the past has been white, and if you don't live near there, you wouldn't know that the majority of the town's residents are white.
Why does it matter what his race is anyway?

School shooting in Ohio kinda doesn't sound like another race but Caucasian. Sure, it's racist, but not every racist ideal is highly offensive...

I mean, Cleveland is way different in demographics than the rest of the state, so I mean there is more room for error.

Yeah, Chardon is in Geuaga County which really is predominately White. When I was at school in Newbury, I think we had one black girl out of 6 whole grades
Now I live 30 mins away in Cleveland Heights, and its hard for me to even find a white person when I walk down the street.
Northern Ohio is very racially diverse, its just spread out in different clusters. Especially NE ohio.
