Despite a slew of bad reviews for her album and SNL performance, "Born To Die" got off to a fast start on Billboard thanks to internet hype and the kind of promo new artists hardly ever get. Cut to a few weeks later, and it's already fading:

This is a problem that all singers who are media sensations face, but not this fast. Do you think Lana can generate buzz and hype again? If so, how?
Yup . I honestly don't see too much for her future. Reinventing herself would make everything she's done seem incredibly disingenuous and the SNL performance will haunt her for a long time.
She never had a huge hype on the GP. So I wouldn't call powerful the hype that she had. Her singles haven't even been sent to radios so it's kinda impossible for her to succeed. But I do think that she won't be in the mainstream scene.
And she only performed in 3 American shows. (correct me if I am wrong).
No. There isn't even a serviced US single, she's selling solely off buzz. Her album will hit 1 million worldwide in a matter of weeks, which will be 800-850k outside the States.
That fall is also victim to the Grammys hype. "Blue Jeans" is reportedly the first single, so we'll see if that helps her any. Hopefully Interscope gets her on Idol.
Honestly, I don't feel like it was even genuinely there in the first place.
I feel like the internet jumped on her because music bloggers/forumgoers always want to project "the next big thing." So if the artist actually DOES hit it big, they can say "hey I was a fan first."
I'm not saying that she won't ever take off, because I honestly don't know. But right now she's basically the musical equivalent to Snakes on a Plane, minus the fleeting cultural relevance.
I'm genuinely confused about her situation. I hear everyone say she hasn't released a single, yet she's already performed a few times in the U.S. Why have they not released a single when the album is already out?
Her selling angle is so forced, clearly her label thinks BTD is the next 21.
I think they've waited a bit too long. Internet hype is always fleeting. They still have a chance to make it, but not the same chance as, say, three months ago.
Lana obviously couldn't care less if she breaks through or not, and I think that might have something to do with how lax they've been with her. Interscope has other acts that are more likely and more determined to become huge (or already are huge).
