For me it's not so much annoying as it is just unnecessary because yeah, you still did way better than average, why does those few percentage points matter when it's just a letter? I'm not saying don't do your best.

Comparing does not mean complaining. I know there are many who ask just so they can feel better or complain but comparing, in general, is not the same as complaining. However, it can be as annoying if it's the type of person who does really well and asks only to flaunt it in your face.

When I said comparin I mean. They ask what I got and I say somethin like..."I got a 95 but I wish it was higher" and they get mad at me and say I should complain cuz they got a 75. I be like it wasnt my fault.

Good grades and good IQ test results do not automatically mean that someone is automatically smarter than someone who didn't have great grades and didn't have great IQ test results. Intelligence is not something that can be outright graded. Grades are, were and will remain meaningless in the realm of education because grades are handed down by only a select group of teachers, one for each class. How can these teachers alone prove to the world that you are smart? Because you got graded highly by them? Please! True intelligence is what your peers think about you, not what teachers or prinicipals or administrators believe. If YOU feel you are smart and other people feel you are smart, then THAT is what should matter.

I dont think grades make a person smart. Grades can all have reasons by it. A stupid teacher or whether a class was easy. Or whether someone was motivated to do work. I know many "smart" people who are just lazy so dont care. But when you are applyin for college, how can the college judge you. They dont have time to spend with every student who is applyin for their school, leavin them with them with the stuff they have no to look at it. But grades dont make a person smart...i 200% agree with that. But college reps cant really tell...

Im a bit late but my grades for the first semester have finally come out! I do a Bachelor of Business at the University of Newcastle, i got:
Distinction for Ebusiness
Credit for Marketing Principles
Credit for Management
Pass for Microeconomics

=) they were a huge relief considering i was thinking that i would fail both Microeconomics and Marketing.

I think I got 4 As and 3 B+s. I was pleasantly suprised. I could have done so much worse, seriously. I don't know how I managed a B on my Chemistry final. I took a lot of tougher classes this year and I honestly wanted to roll over and die during the middle of the year. I think I'm still ranked somewhere around 3-5 in my class. They don't really let us know what our class rank is until September so I'm not quite sure.

About the whole grades deal. I have a horrible work ethic but for some reason I'm a decent test taker and I can comprehend most subjects fairly easily, so in most classes I don't really push myself and try my absolute hardest, but I still do quite well anyway. My parents love to tell me all the time how if I just worked a little harder I would be at the top, but I'm just fine where I am right now. Yeah, grades really are important if you want to go to the more selective colleges. I want to go to school in the city, and if I can get into NYU I would go there in a heartbeat. So I think at this point, college aspirations are really the only reason why I bother in school. LOL this has ended up being really depressing.

I agree with Byronium! Grades aren't the best thing/the most important/ a true refelction of intelligence but let's face it, it's an easy standardized method of judging students. How else are univerisites supposed to make decisions? This is practically the easiest way, and we all know that's what universities look at so we should all be playing the game and trying our best to at least look smart to those institutions which we would like to attend by getting good grades.

Exactly! Isn't it sooo annoying?? They make you feel bad because they acted stupid and decided not to study and do well. Or maybe they were genuinely stuggling, it's ok, I've struggled too (failures, 50s, 60s, etc.) but at least when I get those marks I don't bitch and complain to other people and tell them to shut up when they get good marks, because they have a right to celebrate! So when I get great marks I hate when people try to make me feel bad... too bad for those losers!

I only study the day before exams ,and I still get high marks compared to those nerds who study 24/7. If you asked them anything that doesn't have to do with integration and derivatives ,they will be like HUH?! Grades aren't an IQ tests at all.

and LFR @ those who say "stupid teacher". FOR REAL. Teachers play a huge role in giving marks,They can bitch all they want. My parents just can't believe that!
