Def Jam keen to sign Tulisa, working with The-Dream on album
X Factor: Tulisa Contostavlos to crack America
Tulisa Contostavlos is said to have her eye on the main prize and is intent on trying to crack America.
The N-Dubz singer moved from the periphery of celebrity circles to the main frame last year, when she landed a job on the X Factor judging panel. Insiders say that now she is determined to continue her rise in stardom and wants to crack America and start making a name for herself in things other than TV.
The star is currently working on her debut solo album, but insiders say that US advisers have told her that she could also be successful in the world of fashion if she plays her cards right.
The People quote one executive as saying:
“If it all goes to plan you’ll be worth $6million in 18 months.” It is claimed that record label Def Jam are hoping to sign the North London singer – who recently broke up with her boyfriend and former bandmate Fazer – and want to launch her as an edgy rival to popstars such as Rihanna.
The brunette beauty is in American at the moment and is said to have held a series of talks with labels and with a number of fashion designers, who want her to help promote their ranges.
An insider added:
“Tulisa is aware that record label Def Jam are keen on launching her solo career. She is *working to become a multi-media brand. There are talks of a clothing brand, another perfume, a beauty range and even a calendar.
“She is working along the same lines as Cheryl Cole but much bigger.”
It has been reported that Simon Cowell is keen to have her back on The X Factor later this year and has offered her a substantial pay rise to return. It was also announced this week that Tulisa will be performing at Wireless festival in July *alongside Rihanna and Drake at Hyde Park
Recording with The Dream
The 23-year-old telly judge and N-Dubz singer has been hanging out in Miami with hit record producer The-Dream, 34.
The pair are recording a song together but found time to take a spin in Dream’s £170,000 Ferrari.
They were then joined by friends as they wolfed down burgers and cocktails at Johnny Rockets on the city’s famous Ocean Drive.
The-Dream, real name Terius Youngdell Nash, co-wrote hits such as Umbrella for Rihanna and Single Ladies (Put A Ring On It) for Beyoncé.
This is exciting. Tulisa definitely has the whole package too. Instead of doing it the typical way (debuting in the UK then trying America), I would rather her just focus on America and debut there. The rest of the world will follow that way. It's harder the other way around. Once you've cracked the U.S., you can pretty much make it anywhere.
I know I'm late but I CAN'T WAIT FOR THIS! If she smashes the US.......
I've already introduced her to all my friends. She could be huge, I have high hopes. This first single that's coming soon is gonna be amazing!
Def Jam originally signed N-Dubz and wanted to bring them to the States, but the deal fell through because N-Dubz felt that Def Jam was trying to "change them" too much. Then N-Dubz broke up.
Anyone else getting the feeling that Dappy was the one who cost them / turned down the original Def Jam deal and Tulisa always wanted to make it big in America?
