Was it lack of promotion? Wasn't there anything to make people more aware of this album? I'm asking this because it's probably my favorite Jewel album, and it saddens me that it sold less than 250k.
It seems the media didn't put enough hype into it before the CD came out. I think now would be the opportune time to release single #2. (If she has already, I don't see nor hear it.) And I thought she could've done better with the Again and Again music video.
Bad promotion... bland first single. Intuition was different for her and it made people look... but I can't even remember what the first single on this album was.
I'm also tired of her whiny, whispery voice. I want that dark, sultry voice from "Who Will Save Your Soul" back.
It is actually a good album.
I never liked Jewel since Intuition, but as you know, Intuition was different from this one. But maybe it didn't work out for those people out there and plus no promotion.
Again and Again IS still gaining much more airply in my country..I see it might be doin well here.
I'd assume that a lack of promotion has had at least some bearing on its performance thus far. "Again And Again" had a modest run at radio, though, so her sales are quite respectable in that regard. Also, given that Goodbye Alice In Wonderland is Jewel's last album under her contract with Atlantic Records, one she has chosen not to renew, it's to be expected that the label might not back this release as reliably as they would've in the past.
At any rate, the next single is "Good Day" and it both went for adds (on June 26th) and wrapped a video last month. I like the song, but I don't think it's going to lend much more exposure to the album; it just isn't made for radio.

Good Day is a pretty weak choice for a single, even though it's a quality song. She should have picked Only One Too or Drive To You, which are far, far more radio friendly.
I kind of get the impression that Jewel's starting to think about leaving the business to start a family, from her comments in interviews. Maybe it's time for her to stop trying to sell 10 million again and just focus on singer-songwriter albums that cater to her fanbase. A change in labels would help that goal, I bet.
She's so young and has a huge catalog of unpublished songs already. She could probably coast another 20 years on them if she wanted.

Drive To You or whatever it is... Track #8... is DEFINITELY the *BEST* song on that album. I think that would have done better on radio than the other two bland singles.

Only One Too and Drive To You are like the worst songs on the album
They don't bother me, but they don't fit in with the rest, that's for sure... When I first heard the album, I just assumed they were put on there to be radio singles, because they're so clearly radio-friendly. I have no clue why Good Day was picked as single #2.
