The Killers - When You Were Young
As of right now, the official first single off their highly anticipated sophmore album.
Going for CHR/Pop adds on August 29th.
No word on the Alternative release.
Here is an excerpt from BBC radio in the UK to get your juices flowing.
Transcript: Jo Whiley on BBC Radio 1, 23rd June 2006
Can I just talk about the Killers for a little bit if you don't mind. I know whenever we play anything like All These Things I've Done or Mr Brightside or any Killers track so many of you just go, "that means so much to me," and it just kind of puts people in a great mood. Um, so there's been a lot of talk about the new material that the Killers have been making. I've just been onto their site, their official site to see what it says there and it just says, this is in March, I think: "We've been in the studio now for weeks and we're spinning precious metals. BLING."
They've been over in the UK as well making music, and yesterday I got an invite to go down and listen to some tracks. I'd heard all this talk, people going "God, the new Killers stuff is absolutely huge, colossal," people just using all these words and I was just thinking, "it cannot be as good as you're making out," and I just kind of went along, you know when you're feeling a little bit cynical and you just don't wanna believe the hype. So I'm kind of finding it difficult telling you what it's all like as well, because I don't wanna get people overly excited but I do wanna say that the Killers stuff is very good indeed.
Walk in to the studio, there were the band, the Killers were there, and I said, "surely you're not gonna sit in the room and play us this, your own music? You're not gonna just sit there?" and Brandon was like, "oh yeah I am." And it was just like when a kid's got a new toy and they just go, "look at this, look at this, play with my toy," and Brandon was going, "listen to this record," and just played about 5 or 6 tracks, the tracks that I heard.
There is one track, this is kind of the other myth, is that there is a track called "the gorilla" because it's just so huge, so awesome they couldn't think of a title for it. And I think the first track they played us was that track, the track that's been referred to. It's called 'Why Do I Keep Counting?' Um when, I predict, they'll be headlining at Glastonbury next year, this will be the last song that they do and there'll be lighters in the air and everyone will be singing along. It's called 'Why Do I Keep Counting?' It's quite magnificent. I mean, all the tracks that I heard were quite magnificent, colossal, impressive production. People working on it are Flood and Alan Moulder; they worked on Smashing Pumpkins, U2, Depeche Mode, Nine Inch Nails, all that kind stuff, so you can imagine it's massively big and ballsy, but it's not messy and confused. It's got the sounds of things like U2, and also Queen and ELO, it's got strings in there, but it's also got the early 80s feel. Reminds me of the band The Associates that some of you might remember. It's kind of got that influence in there too.
So 'Why Do I Keep Counting?', that's the massive, massive one, but all of the tracks that I heard will be singles I'm sure, and you'll absolutely love them. There's 'Bones', 'When You Were Young', 'Uncle Johnny', 'Sam's Town' which is really really good, 'Read My Mind', and the final one that was not properly finished was called 'Bling', which is what they referred to on their home site.
So, if you are a fan of the Killers, you're gonna be in your element when you eventually get to hear the Killers stuff. Hopefully we'll be able to play you something when it gets to July, sometime towards the end of July, and I think that the music will be with you about September, late September is what they are saying. But be excited, be very excited because it.. it just puts them in a different league altogether, a different class altogether.

No words can describe my anticipation.

Argh, I was hoping you'd have the actual song up in the thread.
Ah well.

Yeah I was kind of hoping that a good samaritan such as Roger would have the track available for download but oh well. But anyway, that article definitely sounds like the new effort is promising and worth the wait.

Yeah, their first album did nothing for me, although I do own it. The gospel choir was pretty cool on their last single. But the rest seemed like an '80s cover band.

"Somebody told me" and "Mr. Brightside" were awesome. The rest of the Hot Fuss alblum was at least OK imo.

Hmmm I was really excited, it's not that great though. Sounds like a good track, but nothing that catchy and not a great hook.....i'll wait for the full thing though to pass judgement.
