Ok taking a quick moment to log and post lol because I just have to talk about this one, even in brief!
Damn I was looking forward to this movie, the trailer looked great, the casting looked great - and it's friggin Superman, most likeable, untarnished, moral bloke round! But wait...
There are so many problems with this film it was unimagineable and not to mention confusing, so many that when I wrote to my friend about it, that was one hell of a letter but just the main points here: (and just a note, I never read the comics ut I know abit about them but I did watch the cartoon, films, Lois & Clarke series and Smalleville)
1) Superman is a player? He had unprotected sex with a woman whilst he was human, then wiped her memory of the events (totally immoral really even though she said she couldn't cope at the time but it was too esy an option for him to do) BUT then wait! Didn't even care to hang around three months to check whether she was pregnant or not??? Bloody hell, if they hadn't changed it so that she remembered sleeping with Superman (not that she did) in this movie the poor woman wouldn't have even known why she was pregnant which would have been horrible... But then instead of being his fault it turns around to make her look bad because wait - she didn't even wait a few months after he left and before she found out she was pregnant before being with Richard? Then no clue as to whether Richard knows he's the biological father or not and does she even know it until the kid throws/pushes the piano? Back to the now BastardMan - he hears some astronomers think that there's abit of Krypton left so he just ups and leaves without a word to Lois or his parents? It's not like he's majorly depressed, or upset that he keeps helping and humans keep causing **** or perhaps blaming him for not being able to save someone/thing he misses - it's the possibility of a planet that was supposedly completely destroyed being there - ok fine, understandable he would want to check it out but just upping and leaving without saying anything or like I said waiting to see if he'd impregnated Lois, AND FOR 5 YEARS!?!?
What the hell did he do, take a sight by sight tour of the galaxy? Why did he come back looking properly messed up in a meteor when he was at full strength - sure he needs a spaceship to go in to space because his powers aren't supposed to work too far out but hey that was already scrapped in the original films when he flew to the sun and in and out of the atmosphere so many times it doesn't really matter. But that was back in the retro era when suspending disbelief was ok for things like turning back time by making the world spin backwards on its axis, movies were really corny then, now sci-fi/fantasy are abit more intelligent - so they're trying to say for a man who can go to the sun and and back in a few hours took 5 years! Then he comes back after that long and thinks everything is going to be hunky dory? He then uses his powers to stalk Lois and her partner in their home... hmm nice Mr SuperPerv and tries to use it later to undermine Richard and then romance her... keep going Mr wannabe Homewrecker and by the end he's even more of a DeadBeat Dad! Omg - what the hell happened, they took Mr Perfect and ruined him and made Lois look casual at the same time but you felt for her because she was a single mother who luckily found a good replacement, a real superman, just without the super powers but everything else and could even fly

. The kid served in the movie to keep him and Lois connected because it's obvious she had residual feelings for a man who just left with no explanation but had moved on and it also made them look bad... really bad. That's the kind of morals/ethics Superman is supposed to encourage now? Damned shame.
Ok second major gripe - the man lands on a continent made partially of Kryptonite and doesn't notice it until Lex hits him, they then all beat on him, stab him with kryptonite (a suit which previously survived going through the atmosphere and other stunts) and then damn, broke the bloody kryptonite in him (!) and then fell a huge distance into the water and probably rocks and still has a piece in him even after Lois cuts about abit (ouch), and yet still manages to go through the Earths hellaciously hot magma core (why?) to come back up under a continent in the water and lift the bloody thing (made partially of kryptonite and everything else land is made of which is bad enough alredy and in water) into the air and out of the atmosphere???? When he previously forgot about the plane falling from the shuttle he disconnected, then hurried to catch up with it, grabbed the bit that would fall off (wing) and did, lost it, caught up with it and couldn't actually stop it until the last second whilst he was at full strength? Please, are they trying to say he was that energised from abit of sunlight? The man should have been dead mate. Brian Singer seriously takes us for fools.
Lex and Kitty were the only redeeming features of the film with some good references to the old films, and re-vamp of the stronger then a bullet, although abit mean to his dog, few good gags here and there, but it was such a let down. Honestly, the casting and (minus a couple of things here and there but wow - Nikita!) was great, the graphics were superb but the stunts were way over the top and storyline was beyond ridiculous and awful. I mean what is he going to do next time - move the Earth out of it's orbit? He is Superman, not a God.
Bring on Spiderman 3!
Edit - it was harsh seeing his mum not even being able to get into the hospital, I know it wasn't possible because he was known as Superman there and not Clark but still. Also, there were plenty of unnecessary scenes that just made the film feel long in places, so much drama and stuff going on yet barely any interaction - Lois didn't even bother with Clark, Superman and Lex saw each other for all of 5 minutes, no one noticed Clark and Superman turned up after 5 years together at the same time, in a place full of reporters (although they did talk about the resemblence later but fobbed it off), the crystal barely had the same effect in comparison to what happened to the model... it just goes on. The main problem is that as a stand alone movie it didn't work either because there were way too many obvious inconsistencies that made it confusing, flaws, ridiculous plotline, pretty bad dialogue in places. I think it would be ok for anyone who hasn't seen much or know much about Superman or anyone who really doesn't care much baout plotline and where CGI rules all, or those who by into Superman can do/be everything, don't notice his immorality etc but it was just crap to me, even XMen 3 was better and that was butchered but at the very least it was compelling.
