I was talking about this with a few friends. R&B as a whole has taken a step back.
Look at the biggest "R&B" hits of last year.
It's going to take it alot for it to actually come back full-fledged, if it ever happens.
R&B hasn't moved. It's stagnant. It needs a new sub-genre.
I don't think RnB, like the stuff that was popular in 2004, will ever come back again.
The article in the OP does have a point though. We Found Love, Beautiful People and Turn Me On aren't urban songs. They're nothing to do with RnB, or soul, or hip hop. That type of music originated from mainland Europe, not from the black communities in America.
All of those award shows have been kissing his ass. It started with the BET Awards and it just continued. I can't say I didn't see it coming. But for some reason, I don't see the voters taking to him in future years. This was his "comeback" year.
