Discussion: Whitney's Death vs. The Troops

Ok, I am getting really ****ing sick of this. On my Facebook news feed, I see all these people bitching about no one cares about the troops and shouldn't be focusing on Whitney Houston's death as much.

Alright.

First of all, troop deaths are reported in the news.

Second of all, Yes, Whitney's death has huge coverage in the news, but that is natural when someone has millions of fans. Just because someone's death doesn't mean it demeans the death of troops/

Third of all, they are trying to demean a person's death when it had nothing to do with the troops in the first place. I personally appreciate the troops' efforts in fighting for freedom in America, but I hate the close minded attitude that one death is more important than the other.

Have you seen these statuses or posts? And what are your thoughts? I called out these people on Facebook and of course I am getting hate posts back.

I hate when this happens. It always happens when a famous celebrity passes away. If somebody doesn't care about Whitney's death, good for them. But they can keep their ****ing mouth shut. If you prefer to mourn for the troops, then do it.

Same thing with 9/11. "Who cares, worse things have happened and still happen in other countries." That was an extreme example, but you get it.

You know, maybe somebody needs to so they can see just how ignorant and stupid they are. A taste of their own medicine. I've never understood why people always try to compare deaths. All deaths are tragic and terrible.

Yeah I see those those posts, but they're usually from the same people who want to see a Republican president in office, so I ignore them.

It's as if there's a legal cap on the amount of sympathy you can spare for tragedies.

Military deaths are documented pretty well by the media, so I don't see how Whitney's death overshadows them or affects their coverage. People always act like it's the first time they've seen what happens when a public figure dies. At this point, I just write them off as trolls with nothing constructive to say or do.

People who do this **** are so dumb.

1) They know damn well they weren't thinking about "the troops" either, they're just using them as a device to get on some imaginary moral high ground, which is pretty reprehensible in itself.
2) It's hypocritical. The people who say these things never have a connection to the celebrity in question. When one of their beloved celebrities passes, it's a different song.
3) The concept in itself is stupid, because it's possible to care about both Whitney and the troops. People can care about more than one thing at a time.

I have no patience for these type of comments, honestly.
