I reckon Rack City could've gone top 10 on iTunes in 2008 or even 2009 tbh.
And the hip hop/RnB era was from 2001 up to 2006 I'd say. I don't think it'll ever get that big again, although it's looking to be making a comeback the past few months looking a the charts.
I'd say though, that the artist who's probably had the most to do with it is Adele. I know she's not a proper hip hop artist, but she's taken people away from synths and dance. She's made radio realize people want to hear something different. The movement away from synths and electro that we're seeing in the charts now paves the way for RnB, rock, hip hop, country, indie, etc. to make comebacks. It's all very exciting, although I'm not sure how Lady Gaga and Ke$ha must feel about this. I guess we'll have to expect more You and I and Sleazy-type songs from them if they want to move along with the trends.
