Often dubbed as the KING of R&B Usher is back with a new song called "Climax". It’s something that he originally dubbed as “Electro-soul” before deciding that the description just wasn’t cutting it, so he mentioned that “Radiohead Quietstorm” was a better fit.

Critics have been giving it rave reviews. Even Pitchfork ranked it as "Best New Track". With this new genre of R&B, is it safe to say that R&B is likely to return to Mainstream as a success after being Back-burned for so long?

Could be. People will get tired of hearing the same songs over and over again soon.

Usher may be able to get his own stuff played on mainstream radio, but I don't see him bringing the genre back to the mainstream. The genre needs a change - a new subgenre, but I'm not sure how his "new genre" will affect other R&B artists and their craft.

No, the dance craze is strong now. It's also very annoying it's not even top notch dance, it's geric grap. Besides a few exceptions!

So what do you call his new song? Did you even buy his last album? Only 3 songs where electropop on the album. The rest where pure R&B.

I would agree that Usher has never been in the box. His 8701 album wasn't purely R&B and Confession had like 2 songs which weren't R&B. The only albums which had pure R&B were; Usher, Here I stand, My way.

One person alone can't bring an entire genre back to the spotlight.


Climax might be successful, but it'll be limited to him; his singles+albums.

Considering he labeled his last entries into the industry as revolutionary pop, and they were nothing but average dance pop, I don't expect much at all from him.
