Pretty much what the title says. First, I thought that people disliked Nicki's Grammy performance for profound reasons (like some people here on ATRL), but then I read some more and I discovered that people were raging that she involved Christianity and somehow dissed the Catholic church.
You know ****ing what, get ****ing over it. She was obviously trying to "shock" people but Nicki is very theatrical, and she used the Church theme for a reason and there was a message behind the performance. Stop disqualifying every Pop artist that uses Christianity in their music and call it "blasphemy" without even trying to understand the concept.
Well tbh the imagery was kind of sexual. In the sense that she had preachers between woman's legs in a praying position. Sure to those that are not religious it's not a very big deal. Then again to those who are (some not all) it's still kind of obscene. I don't think that Pop/Christianity should be separated but I think if you're going to use it then you shouldn't use it to shock like Gaga/Madonna/Nicki.
it's more like Pop music vs. Christianity tbh,
I mean, you can have a religious undertone to your performance, but to have someone grinding on top of a priest while he's praying. That's just too much.
The most offensive part about Nicki's desperate attempt at controversy was how devoid of substance it all actually was.
Actually, the performance or the theme is about a Christian mother who tries to perform an exorcism on her gay son to "cure" him from his "disease", when Roman (Nicki's alter-ego) begging his mother to stop and accept him.
Well to be honest even though Im Christian and I wasn't offended I could see how and I believe ANY religion would have been offended if she used their imagery.

OK.
But if no one is getting the message then what has she actually accomplished?
I certainly didn't get that the first time I watched it. If that is indeed the message, then great, but it was not effectively presented.
I'm tired of Christians acting their religion is the most important and everyone should change the media to please them. If you don't like the way other people are expressing themselves, then get the **** out. and don't watch the television. Would they rather have celebrities dissing their religion publicly?
Although I am tired of artists using religious symbolism in their work. It's so boring and doesn't interest me.

The general public would probably not even get half of that Most people don't care about things like that. They just want to see a good performance and when you have a message in it that is mixed with controversy it becomes a bit messy.
She has talked about Roman many times, though. Maybe next time, she should reveal the information again with a broader audience and a bigger show.
The bottom line is that she would have benefited from just toning it down a bit... if the message is that simplistic then why the enormous and confusing production? It overshadowed a great song.
Ok, I'm Christian, & it's annoying to me also. I could see if they were doing something like blatantly disrespecting Jesus's name, but a stage performance? I could care less.
