VMA Nomination Predictions
First off, my apologies if a thread about this was already made, as I can just add mine in there, but since the nominations will probably be a month from now, it'll be interesting to hear what we think will get nominated in the major categories. Here's some of my thoughts. I don't necessarily like all of the videos I'm going to mention, but it's my feeling on who will get picked.
Video of the year:
Locks:
Kanye West- "Touch The Sky" or "Golddigger"- Kanye West is a favorite of MTV, and I feel he is soon to replace Eminem as the guy who will always get a VOTY nomination no matter what he puts out. I am just hoping that he gets nominated for "Touch The Sky". Golddigger was a bigger hit, but Touch The Sky was 1,000 times better as a video.
Gnarls Barkley- "Crazy"- That MTV picked them to perform at the Movie Awards is a good sign. Crazy has an amazing concept, is a lock for breakthrough and all the technical categories and was also a hit song. Another good sign is it was directed by Robert Hales, who directed Jet's "Are You Gonna Be My Girl?", which won best rock video in 2004.
Probably in there, although not definite locks:
Greenday- "Wake Me Up When September Ends"- They probably won't win again since they won last year but it was still the type of video the VMA's love.
Madonna- "Hung Up"- Madonna is a the all-time VMA winner and Hung Up was a hit song and well-directed video
All-American Rejects- "Move Along"- cool concept, except "Dirty Little Secret" was a bigger hit
Videos that deserve to get nominated for video of the year, but I feel they'll get undeservingly screwed:
Audioslave- "Doesn't Remind Me", Fiona Apple- "O Sailor" Both are amazing videos that got a love at the MVPA awards, and I hope they do at the VMA's as well.
As for who I will think get noms in the other categories:
Best Male Video: Daniel Powter- "Bad Day", James Blunt- "You're Beautiful'", Kanye West
Female Video: Madonna, Gwen Stefani- "Cool"
Group Video: Greenday, My Chemical Romance- "Ghost of You"
New Artist: Daniel Powter, James Blunt, Ne-Yo, Natasha Beddingfield
Rock Video: Greenday, My Chemical Romance, RHCP- "Dani California"
Pop Video: Madonna, Kelly Clarkson (dunno which video), Shakira- "Hips Don't Lie"
Hip-Hop Video: Kanye West, Gnarls Barkley
R&B: Beyonce- "Check On It"
Dance Video: Madonna, Shakira
Rap Video: Is it just me or was there like not one good rap video this past year?
Breakthrough: Gnarls Barkley, White Stripes- "The Denial Twist", Nine Inch Nails- "Only", All-American Rejects
So those are my thoughts so far, what do you guys think will get nominated?
