I don't particularly care if it was "offensive," not being religious myself.
My problem is that it was blatantly trying to be offensive without any justification.
Like, what was the purpose of having that backup dancer straddle the guy praying like that? There was none.
Laurie Ann and Nicki both have this weird idea that doing every ****ing thing that comes into their head is what being a "true artist" is about. There's never any purpose or motivation for their art or what they do. I mean, Nicki even said herself they did the performance because she just did "Images of exorcisms" and there's no doubt in my mind that's about as deep as she took it.
But Nicki isn't being criticized for doing something "unexpected." She's being criticized for doing something "offensive."
If it was unexpected, but GOOD, there woudn't have been a problem.
You're talking about something totally unrelated to what's actually going on.
and your argument was that the devil inside was allowed to do something offensive because it was marketed that way- so people got what they expected. People don't respond to 'the exorcist' like they did nicki's performance because it was clearly to be expected. Thats what I've gathered from your logic. Not mine.

The Devil Inside also DIDN'T do any of the things that people found offensive about Nicki's performance, a fact you seem to keep missing over and over.
I always had respect for Nicki Minaj and I'm really not religious. But I don't see the artistic reason behind this "show". I understand the storyline, but no ... uhm ... no actual reason for it. When Lady Gaga was dressed as a nun she at least had a reason for it.

The things people found offensive about nicki's performance- religious imagery with an exorcism. Doing something involving religion AND an exorcism in one performance.
All exorcism movies have religious imagery and an exorcism. So what am i missing? They both have that in common.

...All exorcisms have religious elements. An exorcism is inherently religious. The problem was the SEXUAL imagery in Nicki's performance.
The audience likes to watch a good "movie." When the "movie" of a performance
is terrible, like what was shown on Sunday, then it's offensive to the senses
and will be criticized. In other words, "Shut up and take the criticism..."
Nicki referencing 'The Devil Inside' is so fitting in every respect. I assume the film is the major inspiration behind her performance which was disrespectful and amusing.
"#ThrowsPopcornATtheBackOfYoHeadHoe!" comment reminded me of Brenda during the movie theatre scene in 'Scary Movie'.
Yawn. What's she so upset about? It's not like she had no idea of what she was walking into from the get-go. She anticipated---no, WANTED backlash for the religious motif. She hadn't anticipated backlash for how tacky it was.
Of course this was her inspiration- a ******, bland movie that tried to capitalize on Paranormal Activity's success. This girl swears she's some artistic visionary.
I see what is frustrating some of you. You aren't being presented with any form of "artistry" that is being searched for. That stems from the fact that some of you are constantly dissecting things that dont need dissecting. Why not take it for face value? It was a desperate attempt at getting people to talk and did just that. Not much different can be said about the actions of most mainstream performers today.

Dude, seriously why cant you just accept that I and most just feel it was a mess, pure gibberish, lost vision and all.
