What are some singles that you thought were going to blow up (not even if you liked them) but never took off?

Cool, another flop topic! Could've waited for the other 2 to disappear. But, in that case, I nominate anything Coldplay or Dave Matthews. I don't follow either group. Both are as hyped as can be, but neither has had that signature single that overtook any charts. Unless I'm forgetting a particular track.

Nevermind that it's not in the same vein as the flop topics..these are songs that SHOULD have been big, not songs that weren't big that didn't deserve it.

"Red Sky" and "Swing Life Away" definitely deserved to be bigger hits. I'm kinda afraid new Cash(God's Gonna Cut You Down) is going to follow the same path.

Same thing. I always considered a "flop" anything that didn't meet expectations. That's what this one's about too. But I didn't read or post in the others, so might as well start here.

I don't think there are any expecations for the new Cash song. He really doesn't fit any formats these days. Any airplay or sales he gets from that single is bonus. I'd also add the recent Franz Ferdinand singles from the last album here too. They were expeted to take over alt. radio.

I think Triple A opens up to Cash's music with open arms.

Besides that, I wouldn't say that big radio formats welcome Cash in nowadays, but he's still immensely popular and he'll still sell copies of his new American Recordings just because he's Johnny Cash.

He doesn't fit AAA / Progressive playlists in my opinion, but he will sure get played there. He just seems out of place if he's surrounded by Gnarls Barkley, Tom Petty, and The Raconteurs. But like we both said, he'll get the attention of those PDs.
