To me...Madonna has had many, MANY great albums and I often have a hard time trying to sort through to say which one is the best album of hers? I think Bedtime Stories, Erotica, Ray of Light, and Music are high up there but what do you think? And please if you haven't heard at least MOST of her albums take a few and go on YouTube and at least listen to the chorus on the songs before making a judgement. I don't need anyone coming in just voting for COADF because that's the only one they've heard since Hard Candy (and we know Hard Candy is...)
Like a Prayer is her best. It's not my favorite, but it's her best. Here's why. It was the turning point in her career. It was the moment she kind of grew up I guess. It came right before she became "serious Madonna." It was serious, but it still had a bit of her 80s fun naivety. It's far from perfect, but I think it's her best.
Without a doubt for me Like A Virgin, I have all her albums but this one just ***** over the rest:
Material Girl
Into The Groove
Like A Virgin
Stay
Pretender
Dress You Up

Hmm I see . I think that Bedtime Stories could have been one of the best her career as well if you consider that one. She realized that Erotica was too much for that time period so she wanted to soften her image to reconnect with the public but by doing so she created some of her best work sonically.

It would go up a couple notches in my book if I Want You was on it.
Her best album? Ray of Light. It was the first record where she was completely mature, the lyrics were thoughtful and interesting, the production on the album was so experimental & fresh, and it had a strong overall theme making it very cohesive.
My favorite from her? Madonna. Despite it not having much success at the time of release, practically all the singles are pop classics- and that is so huge IMO. "Holiday" is an absolute classic and is still being used as a template for pop songs (California Gurls / A Public Affair just to name two examples), "Lucky Star", "Everybody", and "Burning Up" are still so good, so catchy, and FUN. COADF & True Blue are also great.
Music is my personal favourite. Music and Impressive Instant bring that classic Madonna energy and update it for the 21st century, whereas the ballads really capture a raw side of her that hasn't been seen before or since. I think people view it as some kind of rushed sequel to Ray of Light, but it's so much more than that.
