Last night was the premiere of the highly-anticipated musical drama SMASH, and according to published reports, the show is off to a great start when it comes to ratings.
SMASH ended up with a 7.7/13 at 10pm, and was only beat out NBC's THE VOICE and TWO AND A HALF MEN, which also aired last night.
The Voice had a pretty great night and Smash had a good-to-great start and that in those 56 markets, NBC won every half hour of primetime in household viewing.
The Voice pulled a 10.6/16 (household rating/share) from 8-10p and Smash scored a 7.7/13 at 10pm.
Comparatively speaking that 7.7 was better than everything else on Monday night save the aforementioned The Voice, and CBS's Two and a Half Men (8.5/12).
For the half-hour watchers, the last half hour of The Voice drew an 11.1/16 and the first half hour of Smash scored an 8.3/13 and the second half hour dipped to 7.2/12.
Remember, all numbers above refer to household rating (not adults 18-49 rating) and you can't tell what the adults 18-49 rating is or how many people watched and there is no way to figure that out from those numbers.
I adore Katherine Mcphee, she's an amazing singer. However, the pilot was just not engaging, IMO. Paying tribute to Marilyn Monroe, has been done to death and very redundant in Hollywood.
At 10, "Smash" (3/8/10 I 18-49, 11.5 million viewers overall at 10 p.m.) scored the highest 18-49 rating for any episode of a regular 10 p.m. drama on ABC, CBS or NBC on any night of the week so far this season.
"Smash" delivered NBC's top in-season 18-49 and total-viewer results in the time period since November 3, 2008 (SNL election special).
"Smash" nearly quadrupled NBC's season average in the slot (1.0).
This is NBC's first 18-49 win in the slot vs. regular, original in-season competition on ABC and CBS, excluding Olympics, since November 3, 2008 (SNL election special)
