If Gaga didn't make it as a pop star she'd probably have re-enrolled at Tisch, gotten her degree in Drama which she was enrolled for, and been performing on Broadway at this point. She'd be singing somewhere.

Some artists need to lip sync, but NOT to the original song. At least re-record the vocals, and leave ur mic ON so if u have enough breath to do a little ad-lib or sing-a-long, u can. Backing track>lip syncing. At least mix it up.

I will accept u dancing hard, but keep that mic on so if u wanna sing a little "laddi daaa" between verses, u can do that lol.

I never really minded lip-syncing when the artist could actually put on a great show...

but Britney is really lacking as of lately and I just wish she would sing live a bit more, this the main reason she's lost some respect inside the industry...

some "singers" have to lip-syinc, they know they would sound like **** live, but i dont mind as long as they dance their asses off.

I think for certain performances its fine. The Madonna Superbowl was a 12 minute TV spectacular and I think the emphasis was on the choreography and costumes. Madonna was doing a lot of intricate choreography so you cant say she lacked effort. Her vocals would have suffered badly if she'd tried singing live at the same time.

If you're just stood there with a mic then yes you should sing live because what effort are you making? Plus if you're selling tickets on a LIVE tour then you should sing live vocals. Although some singers do need back up vocals as they just do not have strong voices. I think assistance is ok.

But pop generally is not as suited to live performances as say rock music is. Its more of a package deal and a more studio based sound; electro music and multi-layered or autotuned vocals etc.

If u consider yourself a singer, It shouldn't be a bonus.

But an industry puppet then yes.

Britney is the only exception I know of when it comes to lipsyncing. It's her "thing". No one expects her to sing live unless she's sitting down or hanging in the sky.

So people only care about lyp-sincing since 2008. I can't.

It's not a big deal. Who cares? I'd rather see them out there looking pretty, having fun and hearing a good voice than them sounding bad.

I feel like lip synching is only acceptable at huge events. Superbowl is huge and I think the emphasis is on the show and spectacle. It should be entertaining so of course what does madonna does is more important than what comes out of her mouth. BUT any other live event is not acceptable.

I also feel like gaga is sort of a hypocrite with this lip synching thing. I mean she has soooo much backing track that many times you can barely hear her. Judas especially.

Some back tracking is acceptable, especially if you are singing different tone and lyrics at that time, but if the backing track is helping to cover your voice, than it's the same as lip-synching, which gaga really falls in!

I'd say the rise in talent shows which focus on vocals and performing talent are more the cause for hate on lip synching than Lady GaGa.

tbh I hate lipsynch.
If I go to a concert, I want to hear singing for the most part, I can live with a load backingtrack during heavy choreo performances, but if there is no reason to do it than just sing live and not let a backingtrack help you or like some do dont sing a note at all. That way I could also just get tickets for a real dance performance.

Lipsycning is stupid as hell. I mean... if you go into the business as a SINGER. Then do your JOB.

Look, if you're dancing, at least put SOME effort into it. Sing a few lines and dance. **** outta here with that fake ****.

I have no problems if you are lipsyncing and dancing at the same time

but if you are standing still singing a ballad, there should be no excuse for lipping (unless they are really sick or something)

Let's see you do complicated choreo and hold a note, then talk.

People don't just wanna see you stand on stage and sing, especially to upbeat songs. You gotta move, and no one can do backflips and complicated 8 counts while holding a note.
