If Janet's nipple never happened
Where would she be?
Would she be outselling our faves in 49+ countries in itunes? or Would she still have faded considering her last 3 albums? Just wondering.

Janet's last three albums would've been flawlessly handled, all hitting triple-platinum in US alone...

The nipple was not the cause of her decline.

I would say she became....less popular as the years have gone by.
After the Superbowl, her singles didn't do that well, the highest charting song was "Feedback" in 2008, peaked at #19 on the BB Hot 100
Damita Jo sold 1 million in the US. 20 Y.O sold 600 K+. Discipline sold at least 400 K+
I mean as the years have gone by ,she hasn't had a lot of promotion like before.

after the Superbowl the radio stations blacklisted her singles. Which greatly affected her sales. MTV also stopped playing her videos. MTV were Janet Jackson's biggest source of promo because they kind of worshiped her (MTV ICON, closing/opening multiple VMA shows)
I don't think people understand the impact that nipple had. It changed the whole blueprint of tv. That's where the 7 second delay came from.
She wouldn't have declined because b4 the Superbowl she was on top. All For You was a huge era for her. There's a reason why she was chosen to headline the Superbowl half-time at 38 years old.

She would've faded irregardless.
Her last 3 albums were honestly piss-poor quality-wise & there's no way they'd have been successful under any circumstances, SuperBowl or not.

Its sad but I feel the "Nipple" thing hurt Janet's career ..... Some artists are allowed to have second opportunities, but some others are not allowed to have second chances, The media, audience, and critics were too radical with her.

It wouldn't have changed anything
People just don't care about her music anymore.

Half the people saying she put out bad albums probably didn't even listen to them. Even if that's the case there are a lot of ****** albums that sell millions. The Superbowl made her the public enemy of the world. It wasn't just some random mishap, the **** made every1 hate her, her music, and anything related to her. It's sad @ how fickle people were back then, but the nipple was definitely the cause of her decline. She was held to the highest regard b4 the Superbowl. Her and Madonna would probably be chart rivals if it didn't happen.

The worst thing about it is because of how big of a star she was and how minimal of a star JT was (compared to her), she got the brunt of the bad press while JT didn't receive a damn thing even though he is MOSTLY (not partially, MOSTLY) responsible. Basically, because of how big of a star she was, she was the easiest target to assault.

Just A Little While was a terrible lead single, and the follow-up singles were not radio-friendly, at all.
Call On Me (+the entire 20YO album) was even worse, and by the time Feedback came along, it had been nearly a decade since her last radio hit & people were just over her.
Added to the fact that, the new generation of female entertainers like Beyonce & Britney Spears, effortlessly swooped in & took her spot the moment she fell from grace, and she just couldn't keep up.

Was she even big outside the US? I'm not trying to cause an argument or anything, but I honestly didn't know of her beyond 'Scream' until I started using online music forums in 2009 and even then it's only ever Americans who act like she was some massive world-conquering superstar from my experience.
I constantly heard about MJ, Madonna, Prince etc etc growing up, but Janet? Nothing. So based on that, I doubt she'd be doing anywhere near as well as Madonna - especially since the nip-slip shouldn't have effected her in the UK or in most countries worldwide since they don't care about the Superbowl and yet she still managed to disappear from the Music scene.
I honestly thought of 'Scream' as Michael doing his sister a favour by letting her have a song with him until last year. >_>

People acted as if they never saw a damn nipple. They got so mad, they forgot they had nipples of their own.

She was big if u go by the stadium/arena tours she had worldwide. If ur just looking at sales (even tho she did over 100 mill) u would say she wasn't big. If ur talking about hits she was huge worldwide. The thing is, once the Superbowl happened instead of traveling to other countries to do promo, she went into hiding. She could of easily just pushed the album in other international markets. Either way u would have to be big worldwide to sell out arenas/stadiums in 6 continents.
One day i was bored so I randomly researched the superbowl accidents and all of it's effects lol

Maybe the nipple completely hurt the Damita Jo and even the 20YO eras, but Discipline had nothing to do with the nipple incident, that era was ****ed up due to bad management and little promotion. I don't even think people actually still remember the incident at all today, and if they remember I don't think they still hate her over that, I mean, it's been 8 years now. All she needs now is good label support and promotion.
