Amanda Seyfried on Justin Timberlake: "He's so perfect"

For our March issue, Amanda Seyfried sat down with writer Jada Yuan to talk about everything from making movies to making babies, and of course, a little chat about boys (and by ‘boys,’ we mean Justin Timberlake).
GLAMOUR: [After you broke up with Dom] You were mostly dating noncelebs. Was that hard?
AMANDA SEYFRIED: You learn very quickly what people are so enamored with, and it’s not necessarily me.
GLAMOUR: It’s just the fame?
AMANDA SEYFRIED: I think it’s all the ******** of the idea of someone who’s famous, which seems more exotic than the fact. You have to be careful whom you date, but I had a great time this summer.
GLAMOUR: Are you going through the, how shall I say, “twenties ****” phase? [Laughs.]
AMANDA SEYFRIED: No! I’m terrified of being promiscuous. I don’t like the feeling you get when it’s not something that you truly want to do, and I hate the emotional abuse you give yourself afterward. It’s just uncomfortable when you’re with somebody and you’re like, “I don’t really know if I’m even comfortable with this. Why did I? Eww!” I think dating can come without sex.
GLAMOUR: You are blowing some minds right now.
AMANDA SEYFRIED: I think that’s a really fun way to do it. Right now I’m happy to not have someone’s naked body around me. Except for my dog’s. [Laughs.]
GLAMOUR: You have said you would never date your In Time costar Justin Timberlake. Why’s that?
AMANDA SEYFRIED: Oh, I think any female that meets him at first is like, “I want to date you.” He’s awesome. He’s really funny, smart and talented. He's so perfect. Once you get to know him, he’s a good pal too. He’ll tell you what he really feels. But, you know, he’s really famous, which has its downsides.
GLAMOUR: Have you been thinking at all about kids?
AMANDA SEYFRIED: Oh yeah, I think about kids all the time. I feel like the next person I commit to, that’s going to be the guy who I’m going to have kids with. That’s in my crazy female brain. So that’s why I’m like, “I can’t commit.”

I guess this is her way of thanking him for giving her the biggest movie of her career. She's so cute for admitting she's a non-factor in the media and beneath his level.
Get their box office smash 'In Time' on DVD here or Blu-ray here.

It didn't gross six times more. It grossed three times more in the US and four times more WW. It was expected, since "Mamma Mia!" was a musical. “In Time” is a real movie, not a happy, singy-dancey play about sunshine rainbows. Everyone knows they've been a million pound industry for centuries. Girls, gays, and grandparents love them.

Chloe was GREAT. I think she's a fantastic actress. Very smart, too.

I mean In Time is a smash?
I couldn't even finish the movie because JT's acting was as good as a cardboard box being made to talk.
I think he should stick to music. I mean he is sexy as hell, his singing voice is amazing. He has abbs....why not just tear up the music scene like the old times?

Yet somehow, the reviewers that slammed the movie praised his role and dragged Niccol for sloppy direction and Amanda for looking bored as ****.

Timberlake is shaping up to be a marvelous actor, and his evolution didn't begin with his slick, alluring turn as Sean Parker in The Social Network. He was terrific in Craig Brewer's 2006 Black Snake Moan, and his comic timing, in pictures like last summer's Bad Teacher, is sly and acute. He's great fun to watch here. He has a casual, playful frisson that both offsets and enhances the movie's deeper meaning.

Justin Timberlake continues to demonstrate that he is a real actor, with screen presence. He has a future in the movies.

On my way out of the New York preview screening of “In Time,” I overheard another moviegoer cheerfully describing what he had just seen as a “Marxist propaganda film.” So it wasn’t just me. But it says something about our times, I guess, that the phrase would even come up in reference to a motion picture that could just as well be called grade-B dystopian sci-fi, or a successful attempt to position Timberlake as an action star.

Justin Timberlake, a capable actor with potentially strong screen presences, is criminally underused. He isn't given much more to do than play a generic action hero.

Although it’s hardly an actor’s film, Timberlake is always competent, but Seyfried struggles with this gun-toting transition, and settles for hiding behind a Louise Brooks bob that accentuates her bug-eyed stare – she looks like a Kewpie doll toting G.I. Joe’s bazooka.

Timberlake fares even better as an action hero than he did as a comedic leading man in Friends with Benefits, even though he gets weak support from Seyfried (whose character earns a surprising number of laughs)

Timberlake has the steely visage and stubbled cheeks for a rogue hero, but Seyfried, has trouble connecting with Sylvia’s inner rebellious streak or, for that matter, lending urgency to her line readings. The film’s crucial failing, though, is that Niccol’s imagination is vigorously literary but not thrillingly cinematic.

Timberlake, in his best scenes, reminds you that he really is a natural actor.

"In Time" was supposed to turn Timberlake into a superhero, though given the way he manages a fairly massive pop career with an increasingly impressive acting portfolio, that may not be necessary. He brings an interesting sensibility to his characters, Will included, that suggest a complex interior that "In Time" never quite reveals. The opposite goes for Seyfried, who can do a lot more than use those big eyes and sleek lines.

Naturally, Will aims to bring Sylvia's daddy down, giving Timberlake a chance to show his action chops, which reveal he's in top shape.

Timberlake capably carries the film with a glint of true rebelliousness.

And though her performance takes on a bit more life once her character becomes an empowered revolutionary, the short-coiffed Seyfried is a somewhat dull, cold love interest for these fashion model-sleek proceedings. Timberlake, however, generates enough heat on his own to keep the film enlivened, bringing to his wronged-man role a working-class grit that keeps the performance honest, and yet also a requisite degree of suave badass cockiness to help sell Niccol's well-staged on-foot and car chases.

He’s more critically acclaimed than she in this movie is and overall, so I don’t know what you’re trying here.
