But the growth in traffic, etc. for this site doesn't necessarily give a proper motive to anyone except rival/competition sites, but even then, why now?
The same reason people hack into Facebook, Twitter, celebrities' personal email, and etc. Some hackers just like the thrill of a challenge...and possibly knocking down someone a level or two along the way.
Right now I have found that we are the victim of a SYN attack. Without going to much in depth it is a form of a dos attack. I am in the process of working on adding security options to try and prevent but from what I have been told the best way to block this is to upgrade to a hardware firewall. We currently use a software based one, the hardware firewall though cost significantly more.
