Are Katy and Britney ever compared?
Correct me if I'm wrong, but I rarely see people compare Katy to Britney. Obviously they are very different people and performers, but what they represent is what I find similar between them. Both are very definitive of pop culture and the "American Dream" in terms of music and overall presence to be honest. During the last generation, everyone looked up to Britney and cherished her as the pop star that everyone loved. I feel the same way about Katy today. Both are very light-pop with catchy songs and hit records. Both stunning, both very commercial and inspiring. Obviously there are other successful pop artists, but I find these two in the same vein.
This is just an opinion of mine, so please don't come at me with your insults trying to drag what I said. I didn't post this to be attacked. This thread isn't about who's better or who's sold more records either. If you came here for that, please don't post because it will only cause trouble. Also, please don't bring Rihanna or Gaga into this. It isn't about them. Anyway, just want to see what others thought on this and the similarities between Britney and Katy. Why aren't they compared as much?

While what you've said is pretty much true, I don't think their music or styles are very similar. Come to think of it, it is odd that nobody compares them... but I think it's good they don't, they aren't really similar.

They would be, if Katy was a factor
And plus, they are not really similar.

It's because Lady Gaga is the face of today's pop music, and that ultimately, every other popstar out there will be compared to her.

Because Katy Perry was kind of seen as a more commercial American version of Lily Allen when she first started to become successful with OTTB rather than the next Britney/Madonna in the way, say, Gaga was.
Mostly, I think a lot of people generally don't respect Katy as an artist all that much, so she's rarely presented as close to Britney's iconic level (despite the sales and records).

Britney has always been compared to Madonna, not the other popgirls. People don't really care about Katy that much. She's far beneath Britney's level.

I am sorry, but there is no need to be delusional. While Britney might have sold more at first, katy is having such huge success right now that you cannot make this statement. When has Britney ever has 5 #1 singles from 1 album? I am a britney fan borderline stan, but this is just too much. Stop trying to make people mad!

Oh Duca you didn't have to delete that post.Katy's non-factor in media? In that media where she got AMA tribute,3 VMA's,EMA's,Brit Awards and others?
People don't care about Katy. Those 15 million on twitter and 37 million on facebook sure care.
Katy's 8th most richest Female entertainer according to Forbes.
The fact Britney's completely on another level doesn't give you right to act like Katy's some joke no one cares about.Get real.

It's not about who's above who in terms of success. It doesn't even have anything to do with the music or performance factor either. It's to do with their place in popular culture and what they both represent. To some extent, Katy (now) is portrayed in a similar light to how Britney was when she started out. The way in which they are both very commercial, likeable and followed heavily. The "girl-next-door" image is something that none of the other pop girls have apart from these two. No matter how different Britney and Katy are musically and even as people, they are similar in terms of being at the forefront of American pop music in its purest form. You cannot get any more "bubblegum" than Katy or Britney.

Yes,in some newspaper in my country it said that Katy is the new Britney but with more control over herself and a stronger and better voice! I'am not lying to shade Brit (I Love her),that's just what was written!

When that really great shot of Britney in that turtle-next sweater came out, I did note to myself that her rack was now at a Katy Perry level.

I think Katy's below Britney's level, but she's inching her way. I believe Katy's bigger than Gaga now.
