We all want variety, trust me. It's just that rap and pop both suck tremendously these days, except for a few gems. TRL can have 3 or 4 rock videos at the same time, I am fine with that, but it hasn't happened in awhile. We have 2 now, that's it. And, there have been countdowns with 5 or 6 rock videos on--even 7 one time or another. I'm not saying that's always great, but on that one November '98 recap, they were all pretty damn good.
The world has evolved to meaningless garbage, is what you're saying. TRL has been seriously lacking over the past several years. A lot of bands and artists are shunned now, when they should be getting some respect like they were when Carson was around. Don't even get me started on that. Rap is in at terrible state right now, and so is pop. It's not
all bad, but the good stuff
usually never makes TRL [thank you Nelly Furtado, and Fort Minor.] But pretty much
everything on TRL is pop, and rap, just take a look at the performers and guests this week. It makes me miss the first few years so much.
Rock, has a lot of good singles out right now, and don't try to act like it's a dying genre when the past month on Billboard was rock albums debuting at #1 and #2. TRL just ignores most of it, which is why Red Hot Chili Peppers debuting at all was amazing--and it was only a Sneek Peak! Now they're at 30+ days. I hope they can be some kind of saviour for TRL and get their next 4-5 videos on; they're supposedly releasing 7 singles from Stadium Arcadium.
I think the countdown would be fine if Ashlee Simpson's new video flops, Chris Brown/T.I. drop a whole lot, Nelly Furtado moves up, Fort Minor/RHCP stay on, Chamillionaire falls off, and a few changes are made on the show [First Looks/Click 2 Picks have got to go, I'm sorry.
Everyone deserves a full premiere and that's the god damn truth.] AFI need to return, too. I'm anticipating Outkast's new video, maybe that will do alright...

1) Johnny, did they ever First Look "Coming Undone?" That SHOULD be on, considering the fact it's on mtv.com.
2) A7F has booked the video for STD...I can't wait!
3) A & A's video is GREAT...Too bad nobody cares about ex-Blink 182 members.
4) What about Pearl Jam? Are they ever going to get a First Look? Weren't they out around the time of RHCP? They might actually do well...
5) Thank you for listening.

- Nope, I'm very sure that "Coming Undone" was never shown on MTV to begin with. Like I've said in the past, it's their loss, Korn were the reason most people ever gave a **** about TRL. They did so much for that show, and MTV in general, now they're back to where they were before Follow the Leader was released: MTV refusing to play their videos and not showing any support for them. It's all about what's hot nowadays, and everything that's being played to death right now, will be gone as well. Korn's doing mighty fine without them so whatever. I will say that if they release "Open Up" as a third single, TRL better think twice about ignoring that one.
- Yes. It will rule. ^_^
- If this was a few years ago, Angels & Airwaves would've been on by now.
- They've been around for just as long, if you're talking about mainstream-wise. I don't even think "World Wide Suicide" has a video, but the song itself is old now, and TRL wouldn't show them anyway. That's just unimaginable these days. "Do the Evolution" had 2 days on in '98, but that was when TRL didn't suck.

- No problem.
