In the moment sure. But at the end of the day a #2 peak is pretty damn impressive. Many artists can only dream of this type of success.

Sometimes the #2 peaking song is remembered more than the song that blocked it...and it usually has more lonevity

Since You Been Gone peaked at #2 and its still her most well known hit ever. #2 peak looks bad but as long as the song is memorable and was a hit then peaks mean nothing in the long run.

Clarence creed water (if that's their name) has the record with 6 #2 singles without ever going #1

And they are a great example of how a song can be iconic without reaching #1, Proud Mary is one example. I would mention more but I doubt many people on this board know who they are.

Kelly's AI is still less than 40 million and has only sold around 700K of the song. She still has time to go #1.

That could be enough to help her block Madonna from the #1 spot on the Hot 100, especially since her AI will hopefully be close to 70 million by then. I just have no idea how much Madonna will sell that week. How big was her last debut?
