The recording industry is now virtually dead in the Philippines. The Philippine market are now more into movies and concerts. Almost nobody buys music here nowadays. So a gold or a platinum record is such a huge achievement.
Yeah, it's sad that it only takes 20K to reach Platinum here, given the population. There's way too much piracy going on. But yeah, concert tickets still sell like hotcakes.
