'Da Vinci Code' Shatters Box Office
1 N The Da Vinci Code Sony $77,000,000 - 3,735 - $20,615 $77,000,000 $125 1
2 N Over the Hedge DW $37,228,000 - 4,059 - $9,171 $37,228,000 - 1
Initial weekend estimates are pouring in as the film adaptation of Dan Brown's wildly successfull (and controversial) book 'The Da Vinci Code' scored the biggest opening weekend of 2006.
The big story comes Internationally, as TDVC is reported to have earned an estimated $147 million in it's first weekend overseas, bringing it's Global debut weekend total to a mammoth $224 million dollars.
Also debuting VERY well was the new animated offering, 'Over The Hedge', which played as the alternative to the 'Code' madness for movie going families.
Elsewhere, the film debut of WWE Wrestler Kane saw his new movie 'See No Evil' debut to a respectable 4.2 million in just over 1,000 theatres, for a commendable $3,600 PTA.
Holdovers:
Mission Impossible III (-56%)
Poseidon (-58%)
Just My Luck (-40%)

$77,000,000!? Are you kidding me!? Plus 2nd place got over $37,000,000! If Da Vinci Code wasn't out in theaters this weekend, Over The Hedge would be #1.

I saw the movie first day it came out... people were going CRAZY it was unbelievable. The movie was incredible as well. I thought Tom Hank could have done better, or they could have picked a different actor to play Langdon, but regardless, the movie is definitely a MUST SEE!

See No Evil got to about $5 million. Thats not half bad, considering its an independant company that gave it little promo.
I will be seeing it next weekend.

Seeing Da Vinci tonight but going about 20 minutes early so it isn't sold out like it was last night

Sir Will, do you go to cinema EVERYDAY? I don't believe that you have all that spare time to watch every single movie coming out.

Actually, they show promos for it all the time on Spike when The Ultimate Fighter is on. So it's not just WWE.
On topic, I have no desire to see The Da Vinci Code. At all. The silver lining is that X3 is coming next week and will blow DVC out of the water.

DVC did drop -6% from Friday to Saturday due to extreme frontloading (result of mass media hysteria and consumer curiosity)
However, it's second weekend should be O.K. despite the X3 debut because it's Memorial Day long weekend in the U.S., and the box office always expands to accomdate more viewings when the customers have time off.

The producers hit the movie away. Usually people who do that know they will get bad reviews. I dont know, I dont think HOward thought the movie was bad, man I dont know why he did that. But if he didnt hide it, the movie will be getting a lot less.

I hated this movie with a passion..... they took out all the suspense out of it and Tom Hanks was wooden! oh well

Da Vinci Code One of the best movies I've ever seen. Any extremists that actually take this ficitional book/movie seriously should be shunned and get their head smashed in a car door, just like Taylor.
Not only is this movie awesome, but it's visually just amazing. They did an awesome job, and NO SUSPENSE?!?!?!?! For crying out loud, there was so much suspense, it was so weird.
One bad thing *SPOILER?*
they had so much bad editing with this movie. Robert and Sophie in the movie got this black car and drove it to that chuch where it had all those religions in it out of no where. Where the ---- did they get that car?

Come on people, TDVC is a very good movie. And I must say it'd be stupid to expect it to be better than the book, anywayz.
