And entire economies operate using the internet. My mom teaches career consulting classes and she can't do that without the internet.

It would cause huge damage in the economy.

Because if the US was to shut down the internet, now a WW thing and not really owned by anyone as it is theoretical space, it would be in violation of other countries laws, freedom of speech, basically human rights to speech and information.

Hell would reign down on Earth. It would be too stupid of a catalyst for the US to do it, imagine if China did it, the world would nuke them.
