Agreed.
However, I think it's the other way round as well. On the one hand we've got public interest/obsession, good or bad. On the other we've got the media. We wouldn't know about alot of the stuff that happens to celebs or what they do if it wasn't for the paparazzi stalking them and hence we might not bother so much or be interested in other things and maybe even respect them as entertainers, employees of an industry rather then thinking/acting as if we own them. Once things come out in the media, people get hungry for more and that in turn feeds the media and keeps the paps stalking. They seem to have become their own body, from professional journalists to photographers and amateur photographers making it their business to follow people, snap them and sell the pics to the highest bidder or just mass distribute them by themselves. The media and promotional bodies in general are well known for creating interest, or hype and deciding what's/whose going to be popular before it goes public hence I think they have a very active influence but of course, the public can make things popular and dictate their actions too. It's a cycle.
The media is a very powerful tool and can be used really well, and I think we should be grateful that we have people who get the news to us and let us know what's going on in the world. But I think we need to re-arrange our priorities and transfer that determination the paps have to more important things and leave these people to be private citizens when they're not working.
