If you were a recording artist..
Let's say you had talent. You were a decent vocalist, a good songwriter and a relatively solid performer. How would you market yourself as a brand new artist so that you would succeed in the music industry?
What would your debut single be called?
What would be the title for your debut album?
When in the year would you release everything?
What type of sound would the album have?
What label would you like to be signed to?
Any collaborations on your album? (be realistic for a new artist)
What producers and other songwriters would you work with?
What promotion would you do to ensure success?
How many singles would you release from the album?
How would you conduct your live performances?
In what way would you present yourself in interviews?
How would you look? (Anything signature with fashion?)
Would you interact a lot with your fans?

I already have all this mapped out. I write lyrics/make mixes and I've put three "albums" together, lol. They're more of concept albums that follow some story I had in a dream.
I'm too lazy to fill this out right now, but I'll get to it.

What would your debut single be called? 'In The End'
What would be the title for your debut album? Immunity
When in the year would you release everything? Fall
What type of sound would the album have? Alternative with r&b influenced vocals (think beyonce - I was here
What label would you like to be signed to? Roc
Any collaborations on your album? (be realistic for a new artist) Lupe Fiasco or Miguel
What producers and other songwriters would you work with? The Dream, Kandi Buress, Diane Warwick
What promotion would you do to ensure success? Performances for AOL music, Billboard acoustic performance, Ellen degeneres performance & interview, Wendy Williams performance & Interview
How many singles would you release from the album? 4 - 5
How would you conduct your live performances? I wouldn't be much into choreographed dance moves and I think most of my songs would be songs that you can stay in one spot and sing intimately. But in more energetic songs I would probably be kind of free style and interact with the crowd.
In what way would you present yourself in interviews? The down to earth, caring, and humble person that I am.
How would you look? (Anything signature with fashion?) Pretty hip sterish, Skinny jeans, vintage type clothing maybe. I like Janelle Monae's style so you might see a little of her influence. & my locs.
Would you interact a lot with your fans? Of course. That'd be really important to me because they are the people who take you to the next level, you need to give back.

NAIT PHOENIX
What would your debut single be called?
"Green"
What would be the title for your debut album?
"RhythmiCity"
When in the year would you release everything?
May 22, 2012 (day before my birthday... )
What type of sound would the album have?
Electronic pop meets R&B
What label would you like to be signed to?
Cherrytree Records or GOOD Music
Any collaborations on your album? (be realistic for a new artist)
None needed...
What producers and other songwriters would you work with?
I'm pretty much the songwriter/producer I need, but I would love for the Neptunes to take a look at it.
What promotion would you do to ensure success?
Small performances months before the release at venues, malls, events, etc. and hopefully as an opening act for a bigger artist. Maybe a guest appearance on Jimmy Kimmel, Conan O'Brien, Letterman, etc.
How many singles would you release from the album?
3. One will be a double single. One will include an non-album track. One will be solo.
How would you conduct your live performances?
2 songs will (unfortunately) be pre-taped, but the rest will be live. There will be minimal dance routines. I'll just have a DJ with the tracks.
In what way would you present yourself in interviews?
I'm naturally a gentleman, so that will be my persona. I won't be lazy or seem unfocused. I know how to talk to people and talk with my hands. Also, I like to laugh, so I'll smile a lot.
How would you look? (Anything signature with fashion?)
I'm thinking about it, and I don't really have a signature style fashion-wise. I'm a casual dresser, but I will wear suits and slacks when I need to. But, I also like to wear statement tees or graphic jackets.
Would you interact a lot with your fans?
I love people who like me, so yeah!

I'm not in the mood to fill all this out right now, but there are so many things I'd do as an artist if I could. I've written several hundred songs in the past 3 years; thought up so many ideas for album concepts and performances and videos.
If I had the vocal talent, the money and the ambition to pursue a music career, I would. It's what my dreams are made of; I literally spend hours a day dreaming of what I'd do if I were a huge star.
To paraphrase Dumbledore, I dwell on dreams so much that I've forgotten to live.

Well, if you lack vocal talent, you can just be a songwriter. It makes money!

What would your debut single be called?
I'd have to think up of a song first before I could come up with a title.
What would be the title for your debut album?
"Art of Life"
When in the year would you release everything?
Fall
What type of sound would the album have?
Alternative rock and pop.
What label would you like to be signed to?
Don't know specifically which label, but preferably a British one.
Any collaborations on your album? (be realistic for a new artist)
None.
What producers and other songwriters would you work with?
I'd write my own songs, but I'd want David Bowie, Kate Bush and Dave Fridmann to produce.
What promotion would you do to ensure success?
Lots of touring. As an opening act or a headliner, any way I can get gigs.
How many singles would you release from the album?
Four.
How would you conduct your live performances?
Have a full band backing me while I do my thing onstage. I'd be a Beyoncé-type of performer, without the backup dancers.
In what way would you present yourself in interviews?
Uh, as myself? I would also try to do as little as required.
How would you look? (Anything signature with fashion?)
My sense of style as a performer would vary greatly from what I wear in everyday life, so I don't really know. I'd probably go for a 70s glam-rock inspired look, but still be very much 21st century. I'd make my own costumes.
Would you interact a lot with your fans?
Absolutely.

A lot of talented singer-songwriters think they don't have sufficient vocal talent when all they needed to do was practice to get the best out of their voice.
And if it's your dream to be a musician, go for it. Make it happen. Don't let a lack of money or connections stop you, because everyone has to start from nothing. You can't just let time slip you by doing nothing but dreaming, otherwise you're going to grow old with regrets.
